We are thinking of others in Term 3, the school council has voted ‘The Homeless’ as our Charity this year. We invited Nathan from Porchlight (a Homeless charity based in Canterbury that is throughout Kent) to come and talk to us about how it feels to be homeless. He invited us to take a little box home and throughout lent put our pennies it it, and ‘give up’ something we like to give to others. We hope to give them a gift at Easter.
We had a lovely Christmas Service with Rev Steve and our parents, where we learnt about the real meaning of Christmas and how Jesus came to die on the cross because He loves us so much. We made Christingles in Year four as we thought about the Jesus as light of the world.
We all brought in food that could go to the food bank . The whole school walked to our church, St Mary’s, for our Harvest service. We all took part either by singing, saying prayers or poems. Rev’d Steve told us that not everyone is as fortunate as us and how we can make other words up out of the letters that spell HARVEST. It was amazing how many we could make up, we focused on STARVE and HEART. It rained on the way back so we all got wet!
Bishop Trevor came to school to award the £300 voucher won from the ‘Kent Is Delicious’ competition that we won in July along with vouchers for the winning team. He toured the school and took questions from the children who were very interested in why he carried a staff and what it meant, why he wore robes and what had made him a bishop. Some of the questions were quite profound and thought provoking. He commented that Mrs Pearson should be very proud of the school.
Week 2 Year 2 are learning all about kindness acting out the story of the ‘Good Samaritan’ from the bible. They have seen how two people just walked by and then the third person who was not liked stopped and helped, showing kindness and thoughtfulness.

We learn new songs and always pray together. Each year we have whole school Harvest, Christmas, Easter and Leavers’ Assemblies, which all parents are invited to attend, we usually go to St Mary’s church which is our church.
