Ladybird Class Term 4 Newsletter
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you had an enjoyable half-term break. This term our new topic is Ready, Steady, Grow!
We will be learning about life on the farm, where food comes from, healthy eating and what plants need to grow. We will also explore the signs of spring and link this to our work on life cycles and baby animals such as lambs, calves and tadpoles. Our key texts include Jaspers Beanstalk,The Enormous Turnip, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Handa’s Surprise.
In phonics we are consolidating Phase 3 GPCs, spellings and tricky words. Regular reading at home is vital and greatly supports your child’s progress.
In maths we will continue using Numberblocks to support our learning. The children will practise spotting small amounts without counting (for example, knowing there are three just by looking) as well as developing their counting skills. We will look at how numbers are made up, working within and beyond 5. The children will begin to notice when groups have the same amount or different amounts, explore doubles by finding matching pairs, and link amounts to the numerals we write.
We will continue to have PE on Friday mornings. Please ensure PE kits are in school and that earrings are removed.
As an OPAL play school, children need wellies in order to access the field at playtimes. Please also send in a set of spare clothes so that your child can change if they get wet or very muddy.
In Ladybird Class, we’re excited to offer the children the opportunity to take part in a special Show and Tell session! This will be a lovely chance for them to share something they are interested in or feel proud of with their friends.
It could be a favourite book, a small toy, a photo, or anything that is special to them. We can’t wait to see (and hear about!) all the wonderful things they choose to share.
Dates and times for your child to bring something in will be sent out soon — please keep an eye out for further information 😊
