Squirrel Class Blog Term 5 2025

Teynham School > Year 1 - Squirrel > Squirrel Class Blog Term 5 2025

This term Squirrel Class have begun their topic on ‘School Days’. This has been a really exciting topic as we have been able to link it to our new build, which we are going to be moving into really soon! We began by walking around the school and looking at all the different rooms and areas, and what we do in them. We then wrote poems about our school. We also wanted to find out more about the people in our school and what they do every day. We wrote questions for some of the staff around the school.

Then we read a book called ‘If I Built a School’ and we let our imaginations run wild! We drew pictures of our dream schools, and then wrote letters to Mrs Pearson to ask her to include some of our ideas, such as water slides and ice cream vans! We’re not sure that there will be room in the budget for these though!

We started the term in maths by counting in 2s, 5s and 10s before moving on to multiplication and division skills. We have been looking at dividing numbers into equal groups, and adding equal groups together. We have looked at arrays and written sentences to go with them, e.g.

This array could be grouped as 4 groups of 3 or be grouped differently as 3 groups of 4

Our topic in RE is Judaism: Who is Jewish and what do they do. We have been really enjoying finding out about what things are important to Jews, what a mezuzah is and all about Shabbat.

PSHE this term has been thinking about ‘Relationships’. We have thought about making friends, families, greetings and people who help us.

In PE we have been developing our tennis and golf skills, playing lots of games to develop our skills in controlling a ball, sending and receiving bean bags and balls, aiming for targets, and using tennis rackets and golf clubs. Some children in Squirrel Class have also been at Forest School this term, and their classmates are looking forward to their turn after half term.

We have also really enjoyed planning our class assembly and learning our song and dance.
