Teynham School > Year 3 - Rabbit > Year 3 Rabbit Class Blog Term 3

English
We have enjoyed reading Escape From Pompeii. The story explores two characters as Mount Vesuvius unexpectedly erupts! We effectively used expanded noun phrases and precise verbs , along with similes and alliteration to describe a volcano erupting for our volcano shape poems . As well as this, we have created our own non-chronological report based on Pompeii- we used headings, subheadings and wrote in paragraphs. We all worked really hard on our handwriting too!

Maths
Wow! We have worked extremely hard with maths this term, we have counted in multiples of ten. Use related facts of multiplication and division with the help of arrays. We have begun learning something new! Multiplying two digits by one digit using known facts to help. We also learnt how to divide two digits by one digit, We learnt the importance of learning our times tables to help. We are continuing to learn our times tables.

Topic
This term, we are learning about Rocks, relics and Rumbles. This project teaches children about the features and characteristics of Earth’s layers, including a detailed exploration of volcanic, tectonic and seismic activity. We have explored the features of a volcano and learnt how tectonic plates work.

RE
In RE,  our unit is Incarnation. We have Identified the difference between a ‘Gospel’, which tells the story of the life and teaching of Jesus, and a letter. Explored and compared baptism for children and adults. We have learnt Trinity mean three persons of the Christian Godhead; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We also had time to reflect and  wrote our own prayers to God.

Science
In Science, we had fun learning about contact forces, including friction. We investigated the force ( Newtons) it took to move our shoe across difference services  because of friction.  It was great to use the force metres and explore forces.
