Year 5 Term 4 Blog

It is great to be back and carrying on with our topic! Over, the next term the topic is geography based, we will be looking at UK farming as well as farming around the world.

In English we have already completed our first big write which was a Non-chronological report on allotments. The class really enjoy learning about allotments and what can be grown in an allotment. We have also completed a diary entry imagining we were Michael from Kensuke’s Kingdom. I class have really enjoyed reading this book.

The class has been working really hard in Maths, it has not been easy but they are trying their hardest. We have been working on fractions, decimals and percentages. We are now looking at perimeter and area.

We have just planted some herb seeds that we will be looking after and fingers crossed they will grow! Later in the term we will be trying these herbs and then using them when we make soups. We will have a vote on which one is the favourite.

The class is getting really into their Class reading Kensuke’s Kingdom and they have been doing a lot of comprehension work around the book. The discussions that are happening show they have a real understanding of the book.

The artwork the children are producing show real determination as we go through the topic of lines, shades and shadows. We have been working on our continuous line work and shading.

We have been very luckily and got to visit Brogdale Farm. The class had a wonderful time there. We explored the Apple and Cherry orchards. We learnt at Brogdale they have over 2000 varieties of apples! The children were amazed by this. During our trip we also got to explore the minibeast areas, which had a pond in it. They managed to find lots of different creatures and even a newt when they were pond dipping!

I just want to say thank you for your support!

Miss Ellis.
