Dormouse Class Blog Term 6
This term Squirrel Class have continued the topic, ‘School Days’ where we have focussed on schools in Victorian times, thinking about similarities and differences to school nowadays. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Fleur de Lis museum in Faversham, where we saw lots of interesting things, but were particularly interested in their Victorian classroom. As part of this topic we will also have a Victorian day where we will dress up in Victorian clothes (don’t worry, we will find all of these at school), and use the practical room so that we can sit in rows, with girls on one side and boys the other! Then we will write diary entries about what it was like to go to school in Victorian times.
In Maths we have learnt about place value up to 100. We have been thinking about the tens and ones, counting forward and backwards and comparing numbers. We are now learning about money and will finish the year off looking at time – telling time to the hour and half hour.
In RE, we have continued our learning on Judaism. It has been really interesting learning about Hanukah. The children are now able to talk about the Hanukah celebration and the story of the oil burning from the Torah. At the end of this term we will move on to learning about different areas in a synagogue and what a Jewish person might do in a Synagogue.
In Music we have been learning a song called ‘Nautilus’. We have been thinking about moving in time to the music
Our PE learning this term has been cricket and athletics. We have had a fantastic Sports Week which we thoroughly enjoyed, thank you to all of you that attended sports day – we hope you had a great time too! As part of sports week we played dragon ball, did urban activities (scooting and parkour) and golf.
Our PSHE topic this term has been called ‘Changing Me’. We have thought lots about how we change from a baby to the age we are now, and how much more we will change as we grow into adults. We have thought about all the things we have learnt so far in our lives and all the things still left to learn! We also had a session on some of the differences between boys and girls and the different names for our body parts.
Out Art Project, Street View, looks at artwork depicting streets and buildings and focuses on the work of American pop artist James Rizzi.
